Roles combining interface design and software development were scattered across different titles, while searches for “design engineer” also returned hardware and manufacturing jobs. I built designengineer.jobs to bring the relevant software roles together.

I designed, built, and operate both the public board and the system that discovers and reviews listings.

Job discovery and review

The first version checked a fixed company list and matched titles. It missed relevant roles at other companies, and a title alone didn’t tell me whether the responsibilities fit. I expanded discovery to public hiring feeds and employer boards, then checked for both interface design and implementation in the job description.

Automated discovery broadens coverage, while manual review keeps publication focused on roles that genuinely combine design and implementation. The review queue shows each job’s responsibilities and why it matched.

Browsing job listings

Candidates should be able to judge whether a role is relevant before opening its description. I made location, working arrangement, and available salary information easy to compare, with filters for narrowing the list.

Browsing needs no account or résumé upload; applications go directly to the employer. A weekly email gives people a way to keep looking without checking the board every day.

Maintaining the listings

I grouped duplicate postings and clarified where remote roles could actually hire. Rejected listings stayed excluded, reducing repeated review and keeping the board focused on useful opportunities.

New discoveries arrive in a single review queue, making the board manageable to maintain alongside building it.
